Friends of the Library

Friends of the Waskom Public Library is a non-profit 501(c) (3) volunteer organization comprised of members who wish to advance the role of the library as a vital community resource and as institution critical to the culture, education, and enrichment of our community. Membership is open to the entire community.

The Friends fulfill their mission by:

1. Supporting libraries, literacy and lifelong learning.
2. Supporting the Waskom Public Library in its service to the community through volunteerism.
3. Promoting the services and activities of the library through public awareness.
4. Assisting the library in maintaining a welcoming and user friendly environment.
5. Enhancing the library by providing financial support through gifts, grants, bequests, and other fund-raising efforts.
6. Supporting legislation to strengthen libraries
7. Building a team of advocates with depth, leadership ability, and desire to support a premier library program.
8. Acting as an advisory group to the library administration.

Efforts to raise money by the Friends of the Library are to enhance the financial efforts by local government, not to diminish them. To that end, the Friends conduct an on-going sale of books and other materials.

The Friends also conduct an informative demonstration on interesting subjects for the community each month in conjunction with their meeting.

Since friends are an important source of support for communities, libraries, and individuals, please consider joining the Friends of the Waskom Public Library.

The primary purpose of the Friends is to provide support and financial aid to the Waskom Public Library. This is accomplished through the annual membership drive, book sales, and donations.

We encourage everyone to join the Friends of the Waskom Public Library.

Friends sponsors Open House during National Library Week in April, and will help celebrate the Waskom Public Library's 10th Birthday during 2008.  They also offer assistance to all of the library's activies.

Please visit the Waskom Public Library to see all that is available. The library is open Monday - Friday during the hours of 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. .
